With God It's More Than A Feeling

God's word teaches us that faith is believing in that which cannot yet be seen but maybe it's also about a belief in that which we don't always feel as well. Perhaps part of the problem with all this feelings stuff has to do with how "lifted up" we so often feel when in God's presence during prayer or praise. Then when we come down to earth we miss the high and try to recreate it. Because we don't feel the same we assume that God has withdrawn from us which of course is totally not the case. Scripture says (Jesus's own words) "I am with you always to the end of the world". So no matter how we feel we know that God remains constant and consistent.

Sometimes setting aside time with the Lord for prayer and meditation can even seem like a chore. Especially when there are a hundred and one other things waiting to be done and there doesn't seem to be enough hours in the day to do them. Well, God can stretch time. I know because I experience this phenomenon on a fairly regular basis especially on those days when I am tempted to skip my quite time. God holds everything in his hands including space and time. I don't want to go all "star trekie" on you but this really does happen and God makes time elastic so that we can fit everything in. What's even more amazing is that during the day a lot of the things that started as priorities just seem to get taken care of along the way anyway.

So by setting the mind to make the time for prayer and meditation as an act of faith we come into Gods presence on a daily basis even if it's initially through force of habit. I don't remember who said it but someone somewhere talks about "holy habits" and how to replace some of our less desirable habits or routines with time in the Lords presence.
